camGirlcam is a work exploring the claustrophobia and liberation of being a biological creature in a technologically mediated world. It is inspired by National Geographic’s use of digital photography and video of peoples and animals that are impossible to access otherwise—these media “capture” a moment, or a series of moments, and then packages them into aesthetically and informationally consumable megabytes. We can be made more aware of certain experiences while simultaneously becoming alienated from the true experience of the captured subject.
